According to Anthony Stewart of Sportsnet, the Toronto Maple Leafs have signed forward Wayne Simmonds to a 1 year contract, worth $1.5 million dollars. The deal comes with a full no-movement clause.

Simmonds, 32, was drafted in the second round, 61st overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2007 NHL entry draft. Over the course of his career he's spent time with Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Nashville, New Jersey, Buffalo, and now Toronto.

In 909 regular season games, Simmonds has 499 points (251 G, 248 A), 1,125 penalty minutes, and is a -83. In 44 career playoff games, he's put up 21 points (8 G, 13 A), 106 penalty minutes, and is a -8.

Simmonds won the Mark Messier Leadership Award during the 2018-19 NHL season.

The Scarborough, Ontario native signed with his hometown team for less money than he could've received from other teams. The size, and gritty style of play Simmonds offers is exactly what Toronto has needed for quite a few seasons now, and he can pot a few goals here and there. He had a career high in goals (32) during the 2015-16 season with Philadelphia.
