The Chicago Blackhawks have opened 2020 free agency by signing goaltender Malcolm Subban to a two-year deal worth $850,000 AAV, officially bringing the Corey Crawford era to an end in Chicago.

Subban was drafted in the 1st round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins with the 24th pick. Though he only started two NHL games for the Bruins, Subban was able to amass 63 starts over three seasons for the Vegas Golden Knights and establish himself as an NHL goaltender.

In addition to the Subban announcement, the Blackhawks have also announced that the club has extended rookie sensation Dominik Kubalik for two more seasons, with a $3.7M AAV.

Kubalik burst onto the scene and emerged as a true young star for the Hawks, scoring 30 goals and tallying 46 points in his rookie season in 2019-20.

It's also believed that the Blackhawks are making progress towards a contract for RFA center Dylan Strome.
