Today, the Montreal Canadiens announced they've re-signed defenceman Victor Mete to a one-year contract worth $735,000.

Mete, 22, was drafted in the fourth round, 100th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2016 NHL entry draft. In 171 regular season games, he's put up 31 points (4 G, 27 A), 30 penalty minutes, and is a +27. In 10 career playoff games, Mete has 2 points (2 A), 2 penalty minutes, and is a +1.

Internationally, Mete has represented Canada a couple times, most recently at the 2018 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships where he was named an alternate captain. In 6 games, he had 3 points (3 A), 2 penalty minutes and was a +11 as Canada won the gold medal.

Mete will compete with Brett Kulak, Noah Juulsen, and Alexander Romanov for a spot on the Habs defensive group for the 2020-21 season. He's proved many people wrong, and showed that he is capable of playing in the NHL. Expect Mete to be on the Habs roster next season.
