An interesting development out of Florida Friday as the Tampa Bay Lightning placed forward Tyler Johnson on waivers after failing to get any trade partners for the 30-year-old.

Johnson has four years left on his current contract and carries a $5 million cap hit. The versatile forward has seen his role in the Tampa Bay offense diminish over recent years and averaged just 14:33 a night this season.

The Lightning were trying hard to trade Johnson in the days leading up to free agency, even working with the player and his agent to get a deal in place. With nothing imminent, Johnson will either be snagged by another team or get bought out and will become a free agent.
