Thomspon Retires

Nate Thompson has announced his retirement from the NHL after 15 years in the league.

The 38-year-old unrestricted free agent (UFA) announced it on Twitter.

Here's what he said:

"From the time I was 4 until 38 hockey has been my life and best friend," Thompson said. "I'm beyond grateful and thankful for all the great people I've met and friendships I've made. All good things must come to an end so thank you to all who supported me along this journey."

Thompson is known to have battled addiction during his NHL career and has been a supporter of the cause ever since.

He was drafted in 2003 by the Bruins at the 183rd rank (6th round). In 844 NHL games for the Lightning, the Ducks, the Islanders, the Kings, the Canadiens, the Flyers, the Bruins, the Senators, and the Jets, he scored 164 points.

We wish him the best in his retirement!
