The Maple Leafs have had multiple top prospects leave the organization in favor of playing in Europe.

Kral Signs In Europe

In 2018 the Toronto Maple Leafs selected Filip Kral 149th overall in the 5th round. Typically the hype for a 5th-round prospect is minuscule but not Kral.
Kral proved to be worth plenty more than just a 5th rounder as he established himself in the WHL scoring 49 points in 53 games with the Spokane Chiefs two years after being drafted.
This success then translated to the AHL level where he scored 21 points in 58 games with the Toronto Marlies in 2021-22.
This past season, he made his NHL debut playing two games with the Toronto Maple Leafs but he unfortunately went pointless.
It was announced yesterday that Kral would be signing with Pelicans of the Finnish LIIGA.
Kral will look to have a good year couple of years in Finland in hopes of landing an NHL contract afterward and finally breaking out into the player he can be.
