A 1,000-game NHL veteran has left the league to play in his native country.

Stralman Ditches NHL For SHL

Throughout his career, Anton Stralman has been a very respectable shutdown defenseman. He has registered 938 total regular season games and an additional 113 playoff games (1,051 total games) to have an NHL career spanning 16 years.

It was announced today that he would be leaving the NHL to play for HV71 of the SHL.

"I stood by myself and squeezed into the standing room in Rosenlundshallen and it will be incredibly fun to come to HV71 with the supporter culture that exists here" - Stralman

Stralman has played for 7 NHL franchises over his career and is most known for his time spent in Tampa and his time with the Rangers. He spent last year with the Boston Bruins.

Throughout his 938 regular season games, he has scored 63 goals and 230 assists for a total of 293 career points.

On top of his NHL career, he has won a gold medal at the IIHF World Championship with Team Sweden.
