Greiss has logged 368 career games mainly as a backup for the San Jose Sharks, Pheonix Coyotes, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Islanders, Detroit Red Wings, and the St. Louis Blues.

His career year came in 2018-19 where he posted a .927 sv% and 2.28 GAA with the Islanders.

Greiss is an inspiration to a generation of German hockey players that includes Leon Draisaitl and Tim Stutzle as their hockey programs continue to develop into a powerhouse.
