With Halloween taking place on Thursday, many teams around the NHL have opted to celebrate the occasion with parties and great costumes, but seemingly every year, there has to be at least one to cause drama. This season, it appears to be Vincent Trochek, whose wife posted their costume to Instagram, and while it's been deleted, there has been plenty of backlash across social media.
The costume in question? Trocheck and his wife Hilary have gone to a team part dressed as the Menendez Brothers, Erik and Lyle who were famously the subject of a Netflix documentary series titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Given their story, which involves heinous crimes, it's no surprise that Trochek is facing backlash for the decision, with reporter Andrew Berkshire one of many top names in the media to comment on the decision.
According to social media users, the post has now been deleted from Instagram, with the Rangers star clearly seeing the poor decision that it was to not only go dressed as this, but also to post it to social media.
Sure, would this be an issue if these were two random people in every day life? Potentially, but to be a star in the NHL with a great reach and influence over people, this was a dreadful decision, and while the story has garnered plenty of interest in the past few months, that doesn't mean the costume is acceptable. Ultimately, it's unclear if this will result in any type of punishment from the Rangers or the NHL, but it's certainly a move made in poor taste from the veteran, so expect to see some type of apology in the very near future.
