Elliotte Friedman Hints at a Major Sign-and-Trade Move in the Works
Sometimes even the best insiders slip up. For Elliotte Friedman, he may have accidentally revealed a massive sign-and-trade deal.
Barbashev Could Be Part of a Sign-and-Trade
Sign-and-Trade deals aren't common in the NHL, but we have already seen one happen this off-season with Damon Severson.
It now appears that top free agent Ivan Barbashev could be taking the same route, as Elliotte Friedman suggested on the 32-Thoughts podcast that he could get 8 years as a UFA.
Unrestricted free agents can't sign for more than seven years, and Barbashev carries a lot of value in an underwhelming free agent market. With the Golden Knights looking to squeeze assets out of everything they have, it definitely makes sense that they would capitalize to trade his UFA rights.
With the draft a week away, teams are scrambling to get their hands on key pieces. Ivan Barbashev will have many suitors, and may very well get a lot of money.
This will be an interesting file to watch.
