The NHL is looking to potentially expand past 32 teams and more and more locations are popping up as potential destinations for an NHL team.

New Potential Location

The NHL has seen that expansion can be quite lucrative. With the recent financial success of the Vegas Golden Knights and Seattle Kraken, the NHL has begun expanding past 32 teams.

It is unknown how many teams the NHL would want to have but a new California location has popped up.

A 16,000 seat arena is quite small. For comparison, T-Mobile Arena can seat 17,500 people with plenty of standing room and Climate Pledge Arena seats 17,150 people. The largest arena in the NHL seats over 5,000 more people than this proposed arena.

Being able to be open in 2025 is also enticing because it could speed up NHL expansion very quickly. This could also be a home to the Arizona Coyotes if they decide to relocate because it is the most southern west coast team.

The Coyotes lease with Mullett Arena has an option of lasting till 2025-26 so this location could be the new home of the Coyotes if they are unable to find a new home in Arizona.
