In case you missed it, the NHL's annual Draft Lottery took place on Monday night, with the Chicago Blackhawks earning the first overall pick. Since then, the event has faced heavy criticism for its handling and the integrity of the process. Critics, including former NHL players Guillaume Latendresse and Antoine Roussel, found the event lackluster and monotonous.

Latendresse and Roussel aired their concerns during the La Poche Bleue midday show on TVA Sports, suggesting a review of the format in upcoming years.

Latendresse called for a more dynamic presentation, saying:
"We could make a change at the level of the show. I'd prefer a more engaging spectacle than merely watching Bill Daly flip a sign. We could have seen the tumbler we saw in the photos live. It would have been thrilling to witness the ball being drawn on television. We need to infuse more dynamism into the event in 2023."

Roussel echoed these sentiments, advocating for a more entertaining and interactive experience for fans.
"We live in an era where we want transparency. For me, it would be fascinating to take a peek into the 'dragon's den.' They certainly employ skilled mathematicians. It would be intriguing to see the odds shift as the teams' ranks are established."

During his NHL tenure, Roussel was known as an agitator. He proposed a segment that could incorporate sports betting and fan interaction.
"They could take breaks and provide opportunities for fans to place sports bets. We need to foster interaction with the audience. That's the beauty of sport. The concept clearly needs revision, and it will require creative minds to do so."

Despite the constructive ideas put forth by the two TVA Sports analysts, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, known for his conservative approach, holds the final say. Consequently, significant changes to the event might not be forthcoming.
