Perhaps no prospect in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft is as polarizing as the young Matvei Michkov. The Russian phenom has shattered countless records in the years leading up to his draft year, and continued that success this year in Russia's top league, the KHL. With many concerns regarding the current political climate in Russia, many have wondered if we will ever see Michkov in the NHL, and it appears his agent has something to say about it.

Michkov Will Attend 2023 NHL Entry Draft

There was some speculation that the Russian sniper may not even be allowed to make the trip to Nashville this summer to hear his name called at the NHL Entry Draft. We can now cast those concerns aside, as Michkov's agent Sergei Fedotov has confirmed that Michkov will be in attendance at the draft.
Now, just because Michkov will attend the draft doesn't mean he'll be coming over to the NHL sooner than expected. Fans will have to wait until at least 2026 to see Michkov suit up for an NHL team, and that's if he doesn't sign a contract extension in Russia.
Michkov previously stated in an interview with NHL.com that it was his dream to play in the NHL, which is good news for the fans of whatever lucky team drafts Michkov. Chances are that Michkov will be well worth the wait, and whatever team signs him will likely be getting a 40-50 goal scorer on an entry-level contract for three years at just 21 years old. He will certainly make whatever team drafts him better, but we'll have to wait and see how his current contract status affects his draft position.
