Call it a case of unrequited love. After leaving the NHL last season and signing a deal with his hometown team, Loui Eriksson had a pretty good year for Frolunda of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL).

It seemed an extension was a sure thing, and Eriksson told the team he wanted to come back. The problem is, Frolunda said no. Eriksson told Expressen he's not too happy with the way things went down.

"Considering how I performed, I am absolutely disappointed. I have been clear about what Frolunda means to me as a player. I had given 110 percent all the way this year. I accept their decision and wish the team the best of luck - but for that I don't have to respect the decision."

Eriksson, who is 37, went on to say that not returning is "not my decision," and that he was told the team "wanted to go another way."

2022-23 was Eriksson's first year outside the NHL since the league lockout in 2012. In 34 regular season games for Frolunda, he put up 19 points (11 G, 8 A), and added another 7 points (3 G, 4 A) in 13 postseason games. Eriksson played 1050 games in the NHL with the Dallas Stars, Boston Bruins, Vancouver Canucks and Arizona Coyotes.
