Patrick Kane's time with the New York Rangers didn't go as he had hoped. The 34-year-old was hoping for at least a deep playoff run after some terrible seasons with his former team, the Chicago Blackhawks.

But, it wasn't meant to be after New York was eliminated in 7 games by the New Jersey Devils. With the season over, Kane met with reporters today to discuss his plans. He told them he dealt with an injury during his entire time with the Rangers, something that has been getting worse over the last couple of seasons and may require surgery.
"Kane said he hopes to know within the next week or two if he will require surgery to repair a lower-body injury that he's been dealing with for the past few seasons. He said free agency will be something he thinks about after that." - Dan Rosen, NHL.com

Kane managed six points during seven playoff games with New York. Five of them were assists. In the regular season, he was on a 0.83 points-per-game pace in 54 games with Chicago. After going to the Rangers at the trade deadline, that dropped to 0.63 PPG over his next 19.
Perhaps the injury was to blame, or taking time to gel with new teammates. Either way, Kane is the type of player that expects high quality production from himself at all times, and likely wasn't overly pleased with his performance. He made it clear he intends to play next year, and expects to make an impact.
"I'm turning 35 next year but it's not like I feel old. I still feel pretty young and I feel like the passion is still there. I know that I can be a top player if my focus is solely on hockey instead of how I feel that day."
