The 2023 IIHF World Hockey Championship is just under one month away and is set to be co-hosted by Tampere (Finland) and Riga (Latvia).

On Friday, one day after the majority of teams around the league finished up their 2022-23 schedule, Hockey Canada announced their coaching staff for the tournament, with a pair of NHL bench bosses being named to the team.
Arizona Coyotes' Andre Tourigny, who's no stranger to being behind the bench on the international level, has been named Canada's head coach for the tournament. On his staff, Tourigny will have Ottawa's DJ Smith, Detroit's Alex Tanguay and Canadian Women's head coach, Troy Ryan.
"We are excited to unveil the experienced coaching staff that will lead Canada's National Men's Team at the IIHF World Championship this year," General Manager Doug Armstrong said. "This group brings many years of experience at the NHL, CHL, Olympic and world championship levels, and we know they will provide great leadership as we look to compete for a gold medal in Riga and Tampere next month."

Canada will be in Group B for the tournament, which is based in Riga, and will face Latvia (May 12th), Slovenia (May 14th), Slovakia (May 15th), Kazakhstan (May 17th), Switzerland (May 20th), Norway (May 22nd) before wrapping up the preliminary round against Czechia (May 23rd).
