Breaking News - Matthew Knies official informs the Toronto Maple Leafs on whether he'll sign with the team

Yesterday Matthew Knies and the University of Minnesota lost the National Championship in overtime. Knies had returned to school with unfinished business hoping to capture a National Title. The disappointing finish left many Maple Leafs fans wondering if Matthew Knies would return to school for a 3rd year and try and capture that elusive title.

However that is clearly not the case. Knies made the decision to follow in the footsteps of Brock Faber and officially inked himself a deal with the Maple Leafs.

Earlier in the day the Maple Leafs assigned Wayne Simmonds to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL clearing the cap space to make this signing official. This ends any doubt Maple Leafs fans may have had about their top prospect.

It appears Knies will join the Maple Leafs as early as tomorrow.
