The Calgary Flames are currently four points behind a wild card spot in the NHL playoffs with less than 10 games left in the season. The team has been the subject of much discussion regarding their performance, and the common thread seems to be a lack of cohesion in the dressing room and poor communication between head coach Darryl Sutter and the players. The Barn Burner podcast featured Frank Seravalli this week, an insider from Daily Faceoff who shed more light on the issue. Seravalli recounted an incident from Jakob Pelletier's NHL debut in January, where Sutter pretended ignorance of the rookie in a post-game press conference. According to Seravalli, this behavior is indicative of how the dressing room operates and is causing frustration among the team members.

As per Seravalli's account, the Pelletier incident originated a few days prior to the press conference when numerous individuals in the Flames organization were trying to determine whether Pelletier would play in the next game to facilitate his family's attendance. Sutter refused to provide a response until another player intervened and sought clarification.
"So, finally it took another player to go upstairs and say 'what are we going here? This kid's been hanging around, is he making his debut or not? And if he is, at least give him enough courtesy to say hey, yeah, you're in. Let's get your parents in here to make sure they see your first NHL game."

According to Seravalli, it wasn't until after that conversation that Sutter informed Pelletier about his playing status. However, Sutter's demeanor prevented him from simply moving on, and he resorted to making fun of Pelletier during the subsequent news conference as a form of retribution.
"Oh, you forced my hand into playing this kid, and this is how I'm going to handle it publicly, just to let everyone know that this should have been my call."

Seravalli emphasized that this incident serves as a blueprint of the aggravating factors that are causing frustration among members of the Flames organization.
"That was his way of pushing back. And that's the stuff that goes on behind the scenes that drives people absolutely bananas."
