Jonathan Toews, has been absent from the Chicago Blackhawks due to chronic illness related to a case of long COVID and an autoimmune disorder. But it appears Toews is set to play his first and potentially last games in the post-Kane Blackhawks era. During his first media press conference since returning, Toews spoke openly about the significance of this moment for both himself and the team.

In response to a question about his thoughts on Kane's move to the Rangers, Toews revealed a surprisingly competitive and emotional response. He expressed his sadness at seeing Kane leave, while also expressing happiness for his friend's success. The pain of Kane's absence was evident in Toews' words.

The next question for Toews was about his potential future with the organization, and it remains unanswered. Toews appears to be uncertain about his next move. He pondered on the possibility of retirement or the option of joining another competitive team for the following season, should the opportunity arise. However, it seems clear that Toews has come to terms with the possibility that these next few weeks may very well be his final ones as a member of the Blackhawks.

Toews final comment about his health and how difficult this year has been though shared a lot of insight. It truly appears that it's not just about what's happening on the ice, but how much his illness has impacted his life off of it as well.

In 46 games this season Toews has 14 goals and 14 assists. If this stretch marks the end of his career it will mark the end of a Hall or Fame worthy career.
