Last week, there were reports in Russian media that Evgeny Kuznetsov, who has played for the Washington Capitals throughout his entire NHL career, had asked for a trade. Perhaps even more surprising is that Match TV also reported that the request was not new and had been conveyed Caps management two years ago. On Monday, Kuznetsov was questioned about the report and he appeared to deny all of it.

"There's nothing really to put the comments (on), to be honest with you."

"You know how it is. It's just people trying to put some whatever they want to get the likes on Instagram or tweet or whatever."

"I spoke to those people, and I said, 'Where is this coming from?' So .... at this point, there is nothing to even talk about."

When Kuznetsov was asked whether he envisions himself playing for Washington in the upcoming season, he replied that he does.

"Yeah. Of course. Both kids grow up here, born here and I'm happy here and I like the guys. I like everything. But you never know. It's not always on me."

Most players tend to avoid public discussion of trade requests, so it's hard to draw any concrete conclusions from Kuznetsov's remarks. He was chosen by the Washington Capitals in the first round (26th overall) of the 2010 draft and had his best season in 2017-18, scoring 83 points. This year, he is projected to finish with approximately 60 points.
