Report - Montreal Canadiens reportedly discussing trade for Pierre-Luc Dubois
There has been a persistent rumor circulating in the NHL for years about a potential link between the Montreal Canadiens and forward Pierre-Luc Dubois. Despite no confirmation from Dubois himself about his interest in joining the Canadiens, hockey insiders believe it is the likeliest scenario.
Elliotte Friedman, during his latest 32 Thoughts podcast, stated:
Dubois has been playing for the Winnipeg Jets and has been relied on heavily by head coach Rick Bowness this season. However, it has been reported that the Jets are struggling to keep up with Dubois' expectations, leading to rumors that he may be looking to move on.
Friedman suggests that the Canadiens and the Jets have spoken about fast-tracking the process of Dubois moving to Montreal, and that the Jets may be willing to make a trade to ensure they get something they want out of the situation.
However, it will be a tough position for the Jets as it appears that Dubois has set his sights on joining his home province team, limiting the leverage the Jets have in this situation. Canadiens' general manager Kent Hughes holds all the cards; if the price becomes too high, they can always choose to wait until Dubois becomes a free agent and acquire him for free.
