The Calgary Flames have struggled badly in the back-half of the season.

Since the All-Star break, the theme has been one step forward, one step back, and their playoff chances are hurting. According to MoneyPuck.com, the Flames now have just a 33% chance of making the postseason, as they continue to post middling results.

Their frustrations were animated by G Jacob Markstrom on Saturday night when Dallas Stars F Jason Robertson scored an absolute pearl for the overtime winner. Markstrom - disappointed by a goaltender interference no-call - bashed his stick on his way off the ice. Pretty accurate account of the Calgary Flames 2022-23 season.

The Flames are 4-3-3 in their last 10 games and sit two points behind Winnipeg for the last Wild Card spot in the West. Calgary's 31 wins (compared to Winnipeg's 39) would be the lowest of any playoff team if the postseason started today. If it wasn't for their 15 overtime losses, the Flames wouldn't be anywhere close to playoff contention.

Raising the question: should the NHL reconsider the point spread and dilute the number of points earned from overtime losses? Figure making wins worth 3 points instead of two and possibly zero points for a shootout loss.
