A scary scene occurred on Friday afternoon during the HockeyEast semi-finals at TD Garden between Boston University and Providence College.

Nearing the halfway point of the third period, New Jersey Devils prospect and Boston University defenceman Case McCarthy was carrying the puck into Providence's zone when he was hit from an awkward angle by his former USNTDP teammate, Patrick Moynihan.

McCarthy crashed into the boards and laid on the ice for a few minutes. He tried to get up on his own, but ultimately was taken off on a stretcher. No update has been made at this time.

The 22-year-old was drafted by the Devils in the fourth-round back in 2019 and is currently in his fourth season with Boston University.
