The Ottawa Senators were busy on the trade front on Friday afternoon. After shipping forward Jayce Hawryluk to the New Jersey Devils, the team announced that they've traded defenceman Kristians Rubins to the Calgary Flames in exchange for future considerations.

Rubins, a native of Jurmala (Latvia), was signed by the Ottawa Senators on July 14th, 2022 to a one-year, two-way contract. He's spent the entire 2022-23 season in the American Hockey League with Belleville where he recorded six points (two goals, four assists) in 42 games.

The 25-year-old appeared in three games last seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs, making his NHL debut on December 7th, 2021 against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Any players that are involved in trades following the NHL's trade deadline on March 3rd are ineligible for the remainder of the regular season and Stanley Cup Playoffs. With the AHL's trade deadline this afternoon, Rubins will report to the Calgary Wranglers. The Wranglers are currently the AHL's best team with a record of 40-15-3 through 58 games.
