The Detroit Red Wings announced on Friday morning that they've acquired forward Dylan McLaughlin and a 2025 seventh-round pick from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Jakub Vrana. Detroit is retaining 50% of Vrana's remaining salary.

Vrana, 27, has had a tough time in Detroit since being dealt to them from Washington in April 2021. Upon his return from the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program, he found himself in the American Hockey League, with the opportunity for minutes with the Red Wings dwindling.

In five games for the Red Wings this season, the Prague native had two points, while in 17 games for the Grand Rapids Griffins, Vrana put up 11 points (six goals, five assists), four penalty minutes and was a minus-two.

Vrana has one year remaining on his contract beyond this season, with an AAV of $5.25 million. He'll become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, 2024.

As for McLaughlin, he has one goal in six games for the AHL's Springfield Thunderbirds this season. The Red Wings have loaned him back to Springfield for the remainder of the 2022-23 season.
