It seemed like an idea that most people could get behind. Hockeyallvenskan's Modo suspended their own player for one game earlier this week after he was caught on camera twice in one game with two obvious embellishments. Even Josef Ingman himself agreed with the suspension.

"The club sees a reason to punish and I stand behind it 110 percent," said Ingman. "It's never okay to do what I did."

His union sees it very differently, though. Ingman is still waiting for a ruling from the SHL's Disciplinary Committee, which will likely lead to a fine and possibly even a suspension. The union representing players in Hockeyallvenskan (SICO) says it should have been left at that.

"In Swedish ice hockey, there is a Disciplinary Board that handles punishment cases and the possible sanctions that may be involved when ice hockey players have committed a rule violation. For a club/employer to act in parallel with the Disciplinary Board's responsibility and suspend a player for the same offence is wrong from an employment law perspective," said SICO's Klara Stenberg in a written statement.

"SICO expects the employer to offer the employee the support that may be needed in such a possible situation, as in any workplace."

Neither Ingman or Modo have commented on SICO's statement. It's not a common thing to see teams suspend their own players, but it does happen. It's usually related to behavioral issues within the team and/or between players. SICO has not said whether it will attempt to overturn the ruling. The video below contains both incidents that Ingman was involved in. He was only called for one of them.
