The Vegas Golden Knights have picked up some depth and grit for a potential playoff run. The team has acquired Ivan Barbashev in a trade with the St. Louis Blues.

Barbashev has spent his entire career in St. Louis, winning a Stanley Cup with the team in 2019. He becomes an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, with a current cap hit of $2.25 million.

The return for Barbashev is prospect Zachary Dean, who is currently playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Dean was a first round pick of the Golden Knights, 30th overall, in 2021. He has 49 points (24G, 25A) in 38 games with Gatineau this season. Only time will tell for sure, but this looks like a solid return for the Blues.

In addition to Barbashev, St. Louis also traded away Ryan O'Reilly and Vladimir Tarasenko recently.
