Top 2023 draft prospect Matvei Michkov pulls off 'The Michigan' (video)
Matvei Michkov's time with HC Sochi has been a pretty successful one and the move he made to join them from SKA St. Petersburg, on loan, in his draft year has proved to be huge.
At the time of writing this, Michkov has played in 26 games for HC Sochi, tallying 15 points, which gives him 0.57 points-per-game. His 0.57 points-per-game puts him first among draft eligible players in KHL/Russian Super League history, ahead of names such as Vladimir Tarasenko, Alexander Ovechkin, Evgeni Malkin, among others.
Sunday's game against Kunlun Red Star marked his 27th contest of the season and early on in the first period, Michkov pulled off 'The Michigan', to give HC Sochi the 2-0 lead. Michkov received the pass down low in Kunlun's zone, put the puck on the blade of his stick and lifted it, putting the puck past the ear of goaltender Sun Zehao. Michkov also added three assists in the opening frame to give HC Sochi a 4-1 lead after the first period.
