The Swedish Hockey League has come down on a player who pushed an official during a game on Saturday. Jiri Smejkal, who plays for Oskarshamn, dismissively pushed a referee out of the way near the end of the second period of a game against Rogle. Smejkal had already been called for charging, but was arguing with opponents when a linesman came over to direct him to the penalty box. Smejkal gave him a push in an attempt to get him out of the way. Smejkal was initially given a match penalty for the shove. it's since been announced he will sit for the next two games.

Smejkal played in the Western Hockey League for three seasons but was never drafted into the NHL. He played his first pro season in the KHL, then went to his home country of Czechia for a few years before moving on to the Finish Elite League, and then the SHL.
