The Minnesota Wild have been busy on the trade front over the last week, acquiring draft picks in exchange for retaining salary on both Ryan O'Reilly and Dmitry Orlov.

But, General Manager Bill Guerin says he wants to be 'very active' over the next week as he looks to improve his team in a wide-open Central Division, where they currently sit third with 70 points, two back of Dallas for first place.

"They're showing me they're serious," Guerin said. "We're going to be in a dogfight until the very end. We'd like to be active. What we can do or whatever we'll be able to do is another story. But we have to take a look at being very active."

He added, "I think we've managed our cap well and have flexibility that's important," Guerin said. "But it just doesn't mean that we're going to go out and use it all, because that costs assets. And we're just not necessarily in that spot."

Guerin said that while they would like to add for a potential deep playoff run, he doesn't want to part with any top prospects or first-round picks.

It's safe to say that Guerin and the Wild won't be in on top names like Timo Meier, Patrick Kane, etc., but a couple of names they could be taking a long look at are James van Riemsdyk of the Philadelphia Flyers and Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser.

The National Hockey League's trade deadline is only six days away. Stay tuned to Markerzone.com for full coverage of the trade deadline leading up to 3 p.m. ET on Friday, March 3rd!
