The National Hockey League announced on Friday that Florida Panthers goaltender Spencer Knight will be receiving care from the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program and will be away from his team for an indefinite period.

"The National Hockey League Players' Association and National Hockey League announced today that goaltender Spencer Knight of the Florida Panthers will be unavailable to his Club for an indefinite period while he receives care from the player assistance program of the NHL and NHLPA.

Under the terms of the joint program, Knight will continue to be paid while receiving treatment. He will return to the Club when cleared for on-ice competition by the program administrators." The NHL said in a statement.

Knight has appeared in 21 games for the Panthers this season, where he sports a 9-8-3 record along with a 3.18 GAA, .901 save percentage and one shutout. He was recently assigned to the American Hockey League to get more playing time.
