Anaheim Ducks 2019 4th round pick, D Henry Thrun, will not be signing a contract with the club, GM Pat Verbeek confirmed on Wednesday.

Thrun was selected with the 101st pick of the draft out of the U.S. National Team Development Program. The 21-year old blue liner had an unusual trek through his college career, playing as a freshman for Harvard in '19-20 before going back to the USHL for the '20-21 season.

In 90 NCAA games, Thrun has posted 15g-62a-77p for the Crimson, and he now serves as the team's captain. He will enter the market as an unrestricted free agent this summer. The Ducks, however, hold his rights until August 15, so Verbeek could potentially leverage Thrun's rights in a trade.

Ducks fans know this feeling all too well, as 11-year veteran defenseman Justin Schultz did the same exact thing in 2012. A 2008 2nd round pick, Schultz opted for free agency and signed with the Edmonton Oilers. He has 288 points in 648 NHL games with four teams - EDM, PIT, WSH, and SEA.
