The Edmonton Oilers are facing a cap crunch as forward Kailer Yamamoto is nearing a return from injury. There was a possiblilty that Yamamoto would return Sunday afternoon against the Montreal Canadiens, but Sportsnet's Mark Spector says that's not likely.

According to Mark Spector, to make room on the active roster once Yamamoto is ready to play, the Edmonton Oilers are expected to place former fourth overall pick Jesse Puljujarvi.
"For those waiting to see if Jesse Puljujarvi's name is on the waiver wire tmw, it's sounding less likely Yamamoto will play Sunday, so no roster movement required. Not a 'for sure' — it's an injury. But when Yamo is ready, we're pretty certain that Puljujarvi gets waived." Spector said.

Puljujarvi has had his struggles this season and a split between him and Oilers seems inevitable. The 24-year-old was made a healthy scratch for the second consecutive game on Thursday against Philadelphia.
During an interview with a Finnish media outlet in December, Puljujarvi questioned if he belonged in the NHL anymore, adding that he wants to be a top-line player producing in the NHL, but it appears he can't do that and might have to in another league.
In 49 games this season, Puljujarvi has ten points (four goals, six assists), 26 penalty minutes and is a minus-13. He's set to become a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
If Jesse Puljujarvi is placed on waivers, do you think he'll get claimed or will he clear and be assigned to the American Hockey League's Bakersfield Condors? Have your say in the poll below!
