Management with the Philadelphia Flyers are just as much aware of the awful season their team has had as their fans. A letter sent to season ticket holders signed by head coach John Tortorella Monday essentially pleaded with season ticket holders to be patient, while acknowledging the terrible season it's been. Now, the team is going a step further.

In a message to season ticket holders Tuesday, the Flyers said the team's three home games in April, the final month of the regular season, are "on them." Those with season tickets will be credited for those three games and can use that credit when they buy tickets for 2023-24.
As Charlie O'Conner points out, the move is an admission that the games in April are meaningless, although anyone with basic math skills could have figured that out. At the time of writing this, the Flyers are seventh out of eight teams in the Metropolitan Division, nine points out of a wild card spot. They aren't mathematically eliminated, but it would require a major winning streak on their part, as well as some losing streaks on the part of divisional opponents.
O'Conner also points out the obvious in that this announcement is meant to retain as many season ticket holders as possible. It's interesting it wasn't made in the letter to the same group on Monday. This could have been a response to the kind of feedback Philadelphia's letter to its fans received.
