The Buffalo Sabres have signed center Dylan Cozens to a seven-year, $49.7 million contract, which carries a $7.1 million annual cap-hit.

Cozens, 21, has totaled 94 points in 169 games for the Sabres in his first two-and-a-half seasons. Drafted 7th overall in 2019, Cozens also scored 25 points in 14 World Junior games with Team Canada.

Now that Buffalo has Cozens and fellow budding star Tage Thompson under contract - for a mere ~$14.25 million per season - for the next seven seasons, they are poised to take a big step forward before long.

The Sabres' #1 and #2 centers are inked long-term to favorable contracts, which will afford them the flexibility to bolster their lineup via trade and/or free agency.

With a record of 26-20-4, the Sabres are one single point behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. A stampede is coming, and the NHL had better take notice.
