The New York Islanders announced on Sunday that they've agreed to terms on an eight-year contract extension with recently acquired forward Bo Horvat. According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the average annual value of Horvat's contract is $8.5 million.

The 27-year-old was traded to the New York Islanders less than a week ago from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty and a conditional 2023 first-round pick.

Horvat participated at the 2023 NHL All-Star Game this weekend as a member of the Pacific Division, but wore an Islanders patch on his uniform and during the Skills Competition, wore an Islander Reverse Retro jersey.

The London (Ontario) native was having a very strong year with the Canucks prior to the trade, despite the team's poor performances this season. In 49 games, Horvat had 54 points (32 goals, 22 assists), 12 penalty minutes and was a plus-three.
