Bo Horvat's trade to the Islanders came as a surprise to everyone. GM Lou Lamoriello always works in mysterious ways, but this trade was bold even for him.

Horvat is a pending unrestricted free agent this summer, and how this trade looks in hindsight depends largely on the Islanders' ability to sign an extension.

During All-Star festivities, Horvat was asked about it, and he was honest about it. The newest Islander said that an extension is not a concern of his to this point.

Islanders correspondent Andrew Gross writes: "Bo Horvat said he is not thinking of a contract extension right now. He'll let agent Pat Morris and Lou Lamoriello deal with that for now. He just wants to start playing hockey for #Isles and get comfortable on the ice."

If Horvat does walk to free agency this summer, Lamoriello will absolutely be on the hot seat. Honestly, even if the Islanders do re-sign Horvat, Lamoriello's job could be in jeopardy anyway.

Horvat's services would be a hot commodity on the open market, so the Islanders' front office had better get started sooner than later.
