The hype surrounding Connor Bedard has been building for years now and after an unbelievable showing at the World Juniors for Canada and his strong season for Regina (WHL), the 17-year-old is drawing comparisons to one of the best players in the NHL, Connor McDavid.

Bedard talked about those comparisons in an interview with Sportsnet's Sam Cosintino this week.

"I think when people kind of put me against someone - McDavid, for example - I'm like, 'Well, that guy's got 700 points in 20 games in the NHL,'" Bedard said. "I think what I'm doing right now is obviously not to the impact of that, but obviously it's cool to see your name with those guys. I hope to play against them one day, that would be a dream come true."

He added, "For me, I've got a lot of games left to still prove myself and I've gotta get out there and do that and try and get better every day."

The North Vancouver native has torn up the Western Hockey League this season, recording 81 points (39 goals, 42 assists) in 33 games, while also riding a 32-point streak.

In the last two decades, there are only a handful of players to have this much hype in their draft year, Alexander Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, Patrick Kane, Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews.

Bedard will look to continue his torrid pace in the Western Hockey League on Sunday as Regina takes on Medicine Hat.
