Team Canada's assistant coach for the 2023 World Junior team - Stéphane Julien - recently gave a compelling interview on BPM Sports.

In particular, Julien offered an anecdote, regaling the leadership of captain Shane Wright. Julien emphasized that Wright was the unquestioned leader and commanded the group's full respect.

Canada's tournament got off to a bumpy start, as most will remember, opening the eventual gold medal run with a 5-2 defeat to Team Czechia.

Connor Bedard and Adam Fantilli both attempted a 'Michigan' in the game, and the team's focus seemed to be more on the highlight reel than the scoreboard. Forward Dylan Guenther told media after the game that his team wouldn't win the gold lacrosse-goals alone.

But it was Wright who put the team on notice in the locker room after the game: "After the game, [Shane Wright] stood up in the room and he too said it: 'the Michigans, done! No more!'"

Canada's run to the gold medal speaks for itself after Wright's plea to his team. Although he's caught lots of slack ever since falling to #4 in the draft, Shane Wright was always touted for his intangibles as well as his abilities on the ice.

This story from Stéphane Julien just confirms that Wright's contributions over his NHL career will go beyond the stat sheet. Which bodes well for the Seattle Kraken.
