Pending unrestricted free agent defenceman Matt Dumba is no stranger to being named in trade rumours and there's no question that any team in the National Hockey League would like to have him on their blue line.

During Tuesday's edition of 'Insider Trading' on TSN, Darren Dreger mentioned that the Edmonton Oilers and Ottawa Senators have been in contact with the Wild and are interest in Matt Dumba.

"When I think of a team that may have a defenceman available, I think of Matt Dumba and the Minnesota Wild. There's no question that the Edmonton Oilers and Ottawa Senators have reached out and do have interest in Dumba. Why wouldn't you? He's 28-years-old, he's a right-shot defenceman and he's a pending unrestricted free agent." Dreger said.

He went on to add, "The problem from the Wild's standpoint is they need him. They're playing pretty well right now. They're not sure just yet they are ready to move on from Matt Dumba even though you look into the future and you see the cap issue of the Minnesota Wild But the price would be high and then the Wild would have to hit the market potentially to find someone to replace Matt Dumba."

Both Edmonton and Ottawa are in need of help on the backend, and while it would probably cost a pretty penny, as Darren Dreger mentioned, it would make sense, more so from the Oilers standpoint, to go out and acquire him.

The Oilers sit fifth in the Pacific Division and currently occupy the second wild card spot in Western Conference with a record of 21-18-3 through 42 games. As for the Ottawa Senators, they're seventh in the Atlantic Division with a record for 18-19-3 through 40 games and they're also seven points back of the Pittsburgh Penguins for the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. It would make more sense for Ottawa to try and sign him in the summer, if he hits the open market, rather than giving up assets for an unlikely run to the playoffs down the stretch.

Dumba, 28, has spent parts of ten seasons in the NHL, all with the Minnesota Wild, who selected him with the seventh overall pick in the 2012 draft. So far this season, the Regina native has 11 points (four goals, seven assists), 54 penalty minutes and an even-rating.
