Arizona Coyotes forward Dylan Guenther is coming off a strong World Junior tournament that saw him score the 'golden goal' in the final against Czechia, giving Canada their second consecutive title.

After the tournament, Guenther was sent back to the Coyotes, while Canada's other two NHL players, Brandt Clarke and Shane Wright, were sent back to the Ontario Hockey League.

While it appears unlikely that the Coyotes will send Guenther back to the Western Hockey League, the 2021 ninth overall pick had his rights traded on Tuesday according to Jeff Marek of Sportsnet.

In a tweet, Marek said that the Edmonton Oil Kings have traded Guenther's rights to the Seattle Thunderbirds in exchange for a draft pick and a prospect. If Guenther is assigned to the Thunderbirds, the draft pick will become a first-rounder and other picks will be sent Edmonton's way.

The Seattle Thunderbirds are loaded with NHL prospects including Reid Schaefer (Edmonton), Jared Davidson (Montreal), Jordan Gustafson (Vegas), Lucas Ciona (Calgary), Kevin Korchinski (Chicago), Nolan Allan (Chicago), Luke Prokop (Nashville).

In recent days, the Thunderbirds have also added Colton Dach (Chicago) and Brad Lambert (Winnipeg), the latter of whom was assigned to the WHL by the Jets. Canadian World Junior goaltender Thomas Milic and Jarome Iginla's son, Tij, are also on Seattle's roster.

Guenther, a native of Edmonton, has appeared in 22 games this season for the Coyotes, recording 11 points (three goals, eight assists), eight penalty minutes and was a minus-six.
