Ever since New York Rangers head coach Gerard Gallant made Alexis Lafreniere a healthy scratch last week, trade rumours have circulated regarding the 2020 first overall pick.

While nothing appears to be imminent, as of late last week, the Rangers were reportedly receiving calls regarding the potential availability of Lafreniere.

One of the teams that has interest in trading for Alexis Lafreniere is the Vancouver Canucks, according to Rick Dhaliwal of 'Donnie and Dhali'.

"The Canucks know this player inside out, Lafreniere's old agent is current Canucks assistant GM Emilie Castonguay. The Canucks have checked in on Lafreniere, he was made a healthy scratch last week by the Rangers." Dhaliwal said.

He added, "The Rangers are very ware of the Vancouver interest in Lafreniere. Lafreniere will not be cheap but the Canucks have the assets like Bo Horvat to pull this off, if the Rangers decide to move him."

Lafreniere, 21, has not lived up to expectations since arriving in the NHL ahead of the 2020-21 season. In 172 career games, the Saint-Eustache (Quebec) native has 69 points (36 goals, 33 assists). While he's still young and developing, he likely hasn't panned out as Rangers management had hoped.
