The Vegas Golden Knights have signed 2022 48th overall pick Matyas Sapoveliv to an entry-level contract, per agent Dan Milstein. Sapoveliv, 18, is in his second season with the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL, where he has 30 points in 30 games so far this season (82 in 98 total).

The Czech center measures at 6'3'', 190lbs and could be a fine addition to an otherwise weakish prospect pool.

For now, the Spirit sit in 1st place of the West Division and 3rd in the entire OHL. On his team, Sapoveliv trails only Pavel Mintyukov (#10th overall, ANA) and 15-year old Michael Misa, who was granted special exception status earlier this year.

The only other players who have ever received special exemption status are:

2005: John Tavares (OHL)
2011: Aaron Ekblad (OHL)
2012: Connor McDavid (OHL)
2013: Sean Day (OHL)
2015: Joe Veleno (QMJHL)
2019: Shane Wright (OHL)
2020: Connor Bedard (WHL)
