Team Canada forward Zach Dean was assessed a five-minute major and match penalty for an illegal check to the head of Czechia defenseman Ales Cech. Cech was slow to rise to his skates, but his team did earn a five-minute powerplay.

On said powerplay, the Czechs scored twice, extending their lead to 5-2, causing a goalie change for Team Canada.

Dean, a 2021 first-round pick of the Vegas Golden Knights, is eligible to return for Canada's game against Germany on Wednesday, barring a suspension from the IIHF.
