Canada took on Slovakia in World Junior pre-tournament action on Wednesday night and for the majority of the game, they were in control of the play. They outshot the Slovak by a wide margin, 47-17, and won the game by a score of 6-1.

During the third period of the game, Canada's captain Shane Wright attempted to make a risky pass while in the corner of his own zone, but ended up banking the puck off of goaltender Benjamin Gaudreau and into his own net. Check out the video below:

After the game, Shane Wright and Benjamin Gaudreau were asked about the own-goal, with the 2022 fourth overall pick saying he owes his goaltender dinner at some point for that miscue.

"I saw Otter far side and I tried to throw one cross ice and it just hit Benny and it went in. I told him I owe him dinner later this week or later this month." Wright said.

Meanwhile, Gaudreau said, "I'll take responsibility for that one. It goes in off my feet so it's definitely on me. We talked a little bit about it, I think we landed on I'm going to get a signed stick from Shane Wright. That's better than a lunch for sure."

Canada will wrap-up pre-tournament play tomorrow night when they take on Finland. They'll then open the preliminary round at the 2023 World Juniors on Boxing Day at 7:30 p.m. local/8:30 p.m. ET against Czechia.
