"It was a shock when Brendan informed us of his decision. We were completely caught off guard by this one. After surviving his injury, he was an important part of our defence. Both the coaches, the team and I tried to change his mind again. It will be difficult to replace him. We would like to state that Brendan's decision is not related to his injury from the summer. Of course, we wish him all the best for the future," said Eisbaren Berlin sports director Stephane Richer.

Eisbaren Berlin went on to say in their statement that Guhle informed them of his decision last Saturday. His contract with the team has been terminated and he's returned home to Canada.

Guhle, 25, was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the second round in 2015. He went on to appear in 65 career games between the Sabres and Anaheim Ducks, recording 14 points (four goals, ten assists), 24 penalty minutes and was a minus-nine.
