The Edmonton Oilers announced on Sunday that they've agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with veteran defenceman Jason Demers. In addition to signing him, the Oilers have placed Demers on waivers in order to send him to the American Hockey League.

Demers, 34, joined the Oilers in training camp on a PTO in September after playing just five games in the KHL during the 2021-22 season. Demers failed to make the team out of training camp and was released, but one day later, he signed a professional tryout contract with Edmonton's AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors.
In 24 games for the Condors this season, the Dorval (Quebec) native has nine assists, 32 penalty minutes and is a minus-four.
