Calgary Flames assistant general manager Chris Snow is currently battling ALS aka Lou Gehrig's disease. His battle became public knowledge in late 2019, and from square one he made it his mission to change the narrative on his affliction.

"Someone has to be the first person to live with ALS rather than die from it," Kelsie Snow, wife of Flames assistant GM Chris Snow in 2019.

Snow has become an inspiration to thousands over the past three years, performing acts many thought impossible. Recently, however, Snow took a turn for the worse, landing him in the hospital and later on a ventilator.

His wife, Kelsie, has maintained an open, honest dialogue about Chris' courageous journey, despite its sensitive nature. Late Saturday night, the Snow family matriarch shared that the Flames' executive was awake and alert, sending waves of positivity through the hockey world. Then, early on Sunday, she shared that Snow was taken off the ventilator; a massive W for the entire family.

"Chris' voice is quiet and hoarse from the tube but one of the first things he said was, 'I did it,' she tweeted on Sunday morning.

Snow isn't out of the woods yet, as there is still plenty of room for pessimism. Still, his case serves as the source of tremendous joy and inspiration. His spirit through this monstrous period has never wavered, and there is simply no quit in him.

Snow passed the 3-year anniversary of his diagnosis earlier this year, and according to ALS.org, the average life expectancy of someone with ALS is 2-5 years from symptom onset, with some cases stretching up to ten years. It's impossible - and frankly useless - to speculate how serious Snow's condition has gotten recently, so the best thing to do is celebrate his milestones and show support to his family.

Sending all our best to Chris, Kelsie, and the Snows as they battle their way through this treacherous situation.
