New York Islanders defenceman Alexander Romanov laid a HUGE hit on New Jersey Devils forward Miles Wood during Friday's game between the two teams.

Just over half-way through the second period, Wood was skating through the Islanders' zone with the puck when Romanov comes in like a freight train and levelling the Devils forward. Romanov was then jumped by Michael McLeod and forced into a fight.
After the game, Romanov spoke with the media and said that he thought the hit was clean and that he had no intent to 'destroy' Miles Wood.
"Clean hit. I can't just let him skate through the four guys and score. I never try to destroy somebody, it's just a clean hit." Romanov said.

Wood left the game with the trainer and did not return, with Devils head coach Lindy Ruff telling reporters that an update on his status will come on Saturday.
Romanov was given a five-minute major for fighting, while McLeod was handed a two-minute minor for instigating, a five-minute major for fighting, as well as a ten-minute misconduct.
