The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced on Saturday morning that Seattle Kraken defenceman Jamie Oleksiak will have a hearing for an illegal check to the head of Washington Capitals defenceman Alexander Alexeyev.

The incident that's being reviewed occurred half-way through the second period of Friday's game between Seattle and Washington. Alexeyev was carrying the puck deep in Seattle's zone and was attempting to pass the puck behind the Kraken net when Oleksiak comes in and catches him in the head with his shoulder.

Oleksiak was given a match penalty for a check to the head, while Alexeyev was forced to leave the game and did not return.

The Toronto native has been suspended once before in his career. Back in 2016 as a member of the Dallas Stars, he was handed a two-game ban for an illegal check to the head to Philadelphia Flyers forward Chris VandeVelde.
